Well, the Tony Awards is what’s in the news now…so The big question is…WHO IS TONY?? I’ve heard a jillion storys Here’s the bottom line. Tony — actually Toni — was the nickname of a stunningly beautiful but tough-as-nails Denver actress, Antoinette Perry, who later turned successfully to producing and directing in an era when women in the business were usually relegated to acting, costume design or choreography. Learn her story at http://www.tonyawards.com/en_US/archive/perry.html

Broadway saw a slew of new musicals open to rave reviews over the last year. SOUTH
PARK and AVENUE Q creators Trey Parker, Matt Stone, and Robert Lopez sent THE BOOK OF MORMON to the Eugene O’Neill Theatre in a show the New York Times referred to as ”Heaven on Broadway” and Entertainment Weekly described as ”Revolutionary and classic.” The laughs and applause did not stop there as PRISCILLA QUEEN OF THE DESERT was hailed a ”musical extravaganza” by Entertainment Weekly. Bette Midler signed on as a producer of the show after being blown away by the London production.

Pierrepont Finch, in this 50th anniversary revival of the Tony Award® and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical. Five-time Emmy Award®-winning actor John Larroquette, also makes his Broadway debut as the hysterically sensitive company president, J.B.Biggley. The Risk Analysis Office in our school district has informed us that students at our school are not allowed to use ladders. I understand their fear of the liability involved but I am also sure there has to be a way around this — or else our school will become known for the theater program with the shortest sets. Has anybody found a successful way to handle this?

Here’s a little tip for the lighting folks!
We recently had a little Express meltdown, involving the console
seeming to design all by itself. Mid-programming, the levels would
all change, resulting in a cue no man (or woman) would dare to write.
Long story short, we discovered it was due to some combination of the
two cell phones on top of the CPU and the laptop right next to it.
Removed the electronics from the trackpad end of the console, and
tada! It has behaved beautifully since.

    Excerpt from TuscaloosaNews.com
about the new production of Moby Dick which is orchestrated “alternately with haunting and terrifying violins and drums.”
Trimming verbose Melville down to a two-hour run time means cutting to the chase, literally, of the adventure tale at the heart of his book, and the show in the Marian Gallaway Theatre is at times utterly, viscerally thrilling. But the book and its central story — a charismatic, damaged leader chasing an elusive, massively powerful goal — is so rich in metaphor and potential that Burch would not stint on the language, heightened, heroic, lovely and tragic, Shakespearean, biblical and American. This production seems almost an opera with ballet at times, surprisingly often funny and sweet, building to an ending as nightmarish as a vision by Poe or Bosch.
